Went about 15 miles off the interstate to try someplace new.
This place is totally worth the detour. They had a small buffet of bbq chicken and sausage, with sides for 7.99. Smelled delicious, but I went for the dinner platter of catfish instead, for 11.99. Was not dissapointed in my choice! Catfish was breaded with just the right amount of kick and flavor. The tarter served with it went pretty much untouched. The coleslaw was great, fries were,,, meh,,,.
Service was great.
Take a break from the chain restaurants along the interstate, you wont be dissapointed. -

Could of been easily been a 4 or a 5 but the wait staff was HORRIBLE.
I walked into Flat Iron thinking they might have breakfast the man whom I believe is the owner came out and said no, but "it would be my honor to make you omelette if you'd like" I politely said no thanks as he kept saying it's okay I will, which I thought was Awesome, I said no again but that I will definitely come back for Dinner.
As I was walking into Flat Iron for dinner they were getting busy, so being it was only me I sat up front by the gaming room the 3 ladies never really payed any attention to the door or who was waiting to be seated, so every now and again I'd flag one down and point to the door to let them know someone new had walked in, this was kinda awkward while trying to enjoy my breaded mushrooms appetizer and patiently waiting for my sweet tea refill which came when I was almost done with the shrooms as a group of 4-5 waited to seated and were standing next to me and in front of me. I then ordered the Prime Rib which was Fantastic as well, but as the waitress Katie sat my plate down said "here we are out of knives" which I took as it will one minute to buss a table wash one and I'll bring it right out, as I waited patiently again I ate the steamed broccoli and kept trying to flag a waitress down to get a knife then finally after 7-10 minutes later Katie came back and said "I said we are all out" my reply was "I don't know what to tell ya but I need to cut this somehow to eat it" she then returned and said "here I just washed this one for you" hopefully this was all caught on the camera up front and the manager or owner can review it to help train the staff on better customer service, because when you're paying $46 dollars on one meal you really shouldn't have to wait 10 minutes or so for a knife as your Prime Rib sits at your table getting cold -

"Honey, STOP THE CAR!" is what you need to be saying right this instant. If you're riding solo, then, "STOP THE CAR!" Flat Iron is where it is at!!!
My drive home was about 6hrs both ways, for a one day meeting. 1/2 way through my drive home, I (safely) Yelped and found this gem. This castle of yummyness!!! So very apprehensively I decided to veer approximately 15 minutes off the highway to try out this joint. This is very much outside my comfort zone (deviating off the expressway when I'm on operation day and a half, business trip mode) and WELL WORTH IT!!!!
Easy accessible and about 8 miles from the expressway, it is located in an unassuming strip mall. I was greeted by a super sweet wait staff/hostess (Denise). She made some recommendations and sold me on the brisket, double green beans and bread pudding. Holy geez o Pete!!! And yeah, I just pulled out the Holy geez o Pete! The brisket was tender and the barbecue sauce is tangy and HOMEMADE, yes, you read that correct! HOMEMADE! The green beans were really good but not the BEST. But to be fair, the BEST green beans are made by this girl with two thumbs! Southern style green beans is my favorite food. I could eat them in a car, I could eat them from a jar... Anywho, everything was hot, and fresh and made with quality ingredients (Or so it tasted). I was pleasantly surprised, to say the least.
To give you the fair and balanced story, I have saved the best for last. I must be honest and tell you that I did not save the best for last. I ate my dessert first. I left my heart back in Fairfield, Illinois where I had my first bite of Devine intervention, BREAD PUDDING!!!
This bread pudding was firm and warm and covered in a thick caramel sauce. When I opened the Togo container and saw the beautiful piece of tasty perfection I thought of only one thing. Life is short. Eat dessert first. So I did. And so shall you. So, "Honey, STOP THE CAR!" and go give Flat Iron a whirl and hey, life is short. Have dessert first! -

Really good. Would definitely recommend!! We had the catfish dinners and bread pudding for dessert. The desserts are definitely made for two. The staff (server, cook, etc) were all very nice and sociable but not over the top intrusive. I'd frequent often.

I can't say enough about this restaurant.
Best damn food around. The whole family ate there and we all ordered different "meat" dishes (brisket, pulled pork, steak, pork chop), and picked off each other's plates.
EVERYTHING tastes awesome! Mouthwatering!
Then we ordered dessert - the bread pudding and fried Oreos. We all had a taste and again, Dee-Lish!
Absolutely loved this place.
Hard to find - diamond in the rough.
